Rise up. Be your own guru.

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.

- Oscar Wilde -

Rise up. Be your own guru.

Too often, we live our lives in a sort of buffered silence, fearful of venturing out into this, the most beautiful part of our being. This is your life, and it is a life that is as of yet, undiscovered. You decide your destiny. And, you choose who you will be in each day. Lean into the bliss of your own discovery. In this piece, "Good Life Project" founder, Jonathan Fields, provides his insight on living the good life through his most inspirational Living Creed. { read more }

Just Do It: No TYME Like the Present

If you have an idea to do something great, just do it. Don't wait. Just do it.

- Elaine Newkirk -

Just Do It: No TYME Like the Present

When Elaine was 23, she found herself with 3 infants and 3 teenagers under her roof. Her home quickly became the neighborhood hangout spot. When a small circle of sharing in her living room grew into the size of a church hall, she knew she had to do more. That's when TYME was born: Teach Youth, Motivate and Empower. By day, Elaine runs programs for underserved kids, teens, and adults. By night, she is a mother, foster parent, big sister, gourmet baker, and tireless shoulder to lean on. Through it all, her unsung grace-- her faith that this isn't special, it's just what needs to be done-- keeps her smile bright, her heart open, and her eyes ready to see the greatness in each person or situation life offers her. { read more }

An Abiding Ocean of Love: Artist Chris Jordan

One powerful elixir is beauty. There is nothing quite like beauty. When you bring beauty and grief together, you can't look at it, because it's so sad -- and you can't look away, because it's so beautiful. It's a moment of being transfixed, and the key is turned in the lock.

- Chris Jordan -

An Abiding Ocean of Love: Artist Chris Jordan

The internationally acclaimed artist and cultural activist Chris Jordan explores contemporary mass culture and asks us to consider our roles in becoming more conscious stewards of the world. His work reflects the practices of making the invisible visible and developing empathy for all living things. In his series titled "Running the Numbers," for instance, he creates "beautiful works of art that reveal just what happens when 300 million of us do some seemingly innocuous thing, like throw out a milk carton or cell phone or water bottle." His more recent work brings the perils of plastic and ocean pollution into stark focus. This interview shares some of Jordan's arresting perspectives and photographs. { read more }

39 Ways to Live Not Merely Exist

The proper function of man is to live -- not to exist.

- Jack London -

39 Ways to Live Not Merely Exist

"Too often we go through life on autopilot, going through the motions and having each day pass like the one before it... If you want to truly live life, to really experience it, to enjoy it to the fullest, instead of barely scraping by and only living a life of existence, then you need to find ways to break free from the mold and drink from life. What follows is just a list of ideas, obvious ones mostly that you could have thought of yourself, but that I hope are useful reminders. We all need reminders sometimes." { read more }
